Description
Widespread in Europe from southern Great Britain and southern Sweden to the Pyrenees, throughout Central Europe to the Ukraine and the Balkans. Zone 5-7.
20-35(50) years old height and 1.8(2.5) m. diameter tree. It grows slowly. Lives 200-300 years.
The wood is pale yellow or reddish brown, usually the sapwood and heartwood are monochromatic. The wood is hard, moderately heavy, strong.
Common beech has many decorative forms. Beech Fagus sylvatica is suitable for forming hedges.
